Social Network Traffic Analysis of 37 Sites

Saturday, November 22nd 2008 @ 9:46 PM    post viewed 201 times

This information is provided by IGNITE SOCIAL MEDIA - Very interesting information on traffic patterns for social network sites.

Social Network Traffic Analysis - 37 Sites Compared

October 14, 2008

Social Network traffic has seen some interesting trends as of late. There is no doubt that social networks are here to stay, and will only continue to become more mainstream. However, not all sites are seeing booming traffic, in fact some seem to be dieing.

Below you will find 37 sites, compared, with their traffic estimates over the last 12 months via Google Trends for Websites.

Google is by no means completely accurate, but like most tools that estimate traffic you need to look at trends and not exact figures. Googles explanation of how they determine these results is below.

Google Trends provides insights into broad search patterns. Please keep in mind that several approximations are used when computing these results. All traffic statistics are estimates.

3 Interesting Social Network Traffic Analysis Takeaways:

  • There seems to be a decline in social traffic for a multitude of sites since September
  • Twitter and Plurk are seeing explosive increases while Pownce and Identi.ca are falling.
  • Facebook, Flickr, Hi5, Linkedin, Mixx and Yelp to name a few are all seeing large surges of increased traffic over the last year.

2008 Social Network Analysis Report

Saturday, November 22nd 2008 @ 9:41 PM    post viewed 339 times

A Note from GHIP - Read this to learn more about Social Network demographics, truly vital information and you may be surprised...

Somewhere in the depths of resources you find perusing the web, once in a while you find a "GOLDEN NUGGET" of priceless information that is presented in such a valuable and useful format you wonder why the author didn't ask for your credit card to view it.  Maybe it's just me - anyone who knows me well understands that I am a little obsessive with new technology and the applicability to business marketing.  I am intrigued with the entire social network medium for business promotion and advertisement and I leverage the use of a number of different tools each day for the promotion of the GHIP group and other businesses I am involved in.  It is through these tools that our GHIP membership based has a following of close to 3000 members worldwide.

In my new adventures using the TWITTER tool to keep GHIP members up-to-date with the new member functions, events and opportunities, I started being "followed" by someone from IGNITE Social Media.  I, in turn, "followed" them back and was fortunate enough to find this link.  It truly is your "golden ticket" to understanding the who/what/where/why/how of social networks using real data metrics compiled through Google Insights and Google AdPlanner.  Enjoy and be sure to send the author a positive comment for his hard work.
